We love playing Exploding Kittens! It is such an easy game to learn and it is a lot of fun to play with adults, teens, and older kids.
The card game is highly strategic and plays like a feline-inspired version of Uno with a Russian roulette risk element.
Exploding Kittens takes just 5 minutes to learn and about 15 minutes to play. The original version is for 2 to 5 players ages 7 or older and includes 56 cards.
There is an expanded party version where you can have up to 10 players join. This version is currently on sale for $22.79, but it too has an instant coupon of $5.70 off your purchase that you can clip for instant savings. This brings the total to just $17.09 and the expanded version retails for $29.99!
How the game works
You start out with a hand of cards and play as many cards as you want. Then to end your turn, you take a card from the draw pile on the table.
However, it is best to avoid drawing at any time you can! The more you have to draw, the more of a chance you have to explode! And you want to avoid that as much as possible.
To avoid drawing, there are various cards like skipping your turn and attacking other players. You can also play a card to peek at the deck or alter the future where you can move an upcoming exploding kitten card.
Unfortunately, you must draw a card to end your turn unless you have a card that gets you out of drawing. By avoiding the draw pile, you cannot explode. If you end up drawing a card with an exploding kitten on it, you explode and are out of the game.
You can, however, avoid exploding if you have a Defuse card on hand. So these cards are something you definitely want to hang onto when possible!
Players continue to play, avoiding the draw pile when they can to avoid those exploding kittens. The final person in the game that doesn’t explode is declared the winner!
